LE TIGRE: Apelsin, Sept. 28
By Arina Birstein
Issue 9
September 9 - October 7, 2004

rowdy girls: Le Tigre
After hosting alternate electro stars Chicks on Speed (Germany) and Vive La Fete (Belgium), Apelsin continues the trend with another underground project — New York-based Le Tigre. This riot-lady trio plays a mixture of roller-skate jams with sampler-punk and electro-conceptual sounds, all flavored with political lyrics and accompanied by feminist video installations. The project members — Kathleen Hanna, best known as the former leader of Bikini Kill (the band that defined the early ’90s riot-grrl movement), fanzine producer Johanna Fateman and video artist J.D. Samson — reject any predefined roles. They all produce new ideas, write and edit video installations, sample, play instruments and form lyrics by completing unfinished sentences tossed from one to another.

In Moscow, they plan to present the very cream of their repertoire. Their recently “perfected” show promises to combine a number of layers, including such elements as dance, performance art, video art and slides.

Entrance is free for those who present a copy of the latest issue of Jalouse magazine at the door.
