DJ upstairs: Rotonda |
If you think Moscow clubbing is all about face control and trendy footwear, Rotonda well and truly breaks the stereotype. Not only is there no face control, there’s also a shoes-off rule if you want to go upstairs to the no-smoking, no-drinking dancefloor. A recent “Shiva i Gagarin” party saw revelers rolling around in styrofoam packing beads as a man, stripped to his underpants, beat a laughing woman with an inflatable banana. Meanwhile, other patrons danced around them, doing a hillbilly jig in a conga line. In the bar downstairs, you can drink, dine and smoke a hookah, and watch bearded, beaded men in sandals and socks massaging blissed-out flower children. Tea seems to be the beverage of choice, although beer and other alcoholic beverages are also available at democratic prices.
