Wall street wall: upstairs |
Downstairs from the historic Yeliseyevsky gourmet store on Tverskaya Ulitsa is the slick, new U Yeliseyeva club and restaurant, also known by its initials, UYe. Capitalizing on the fact that the same initials are used to refer to “conditional units” roughly equal in value to dollars or euros, UYe has made money its theme. The logo is crossed like a currency symbol, the floors have money under glass, enormous photos of Wall Street traders decorate one wall, and the smaller room is decked out like a bank vault. Even the bathrooms follow the theme, with currency symbols all over the toilet seats and $100-bill toilet paper. The chef is said to have been the personal cook of a Saudi king. Wi-fi and the availability of business office services make for a complete experience — but with bottled Tinkoff going for 90 rubles, you don’t need to be flush with conditional units to enjoy UYe.
