While the smoking controversy fumes around the world, Moscow is by degrees becoming more conscious of restaurant-goers yearning for a smoke-free environment.
Where there's smoke...
Much of the anti-smoking noise is aimed at cigarette smoking, while cigars and hookahs are attracting new fans. A growing number of clubs have set aside special areas for customers to chomp on hand-rolled Cubans or puff on a water pipe.
Tunnel
Just a year ago, right in the center of the city behind the Polytechnical Museum at Lubyanka, The Tunnel club was born. Some doubted it would last long, questioning who was supposed to be the target audience of this 800-square-meter venue with capacity for 350 people — but the venue has survived, and celebrated its first anniversary in October.
